The National Research Award






The establishment of TRC is, without doubt, a significant step in the scientific, economic and social development of Oman. Research is essential to nation building – it underpins progress, economic growth and prosperity; it helps us better equip and train our workforce and encourages creativity and innovation; it leads to greater entrepreneurship and helps industry growth. In short, research makes our nation more competitive in the global economy. The establishment of the National Research Award (NRA) is a translation of the and partial realization of the National Research Strategy 2008-2020, which aims at building greater research capacity; achieving research excellence in fields of national importance and enabling a supportive environment for research. The award contributes to spread the competitive spirit between researchers and motivate them to research to achieve total quality and sustainable development.

• Education and Human Resources.

• Information Systems and Communication Technologies.

• Health and Community Service.

• Energy and Industry.

• Culture, the Humanities, and Social Sciences.

• Environmental and Biological Resources.

Award Categories

• Category I: Best published research led by a PhD holder or equivalent (Consultant or senior consultant in the medical field).

• Category II: Best published research led by a young researcher (a non-PhD holder).

Award Objectives:

• Encourage researchers to continue their activities and initiatives in conducting high quality research.

• Encourage the development of the research culture and enhance the quality of the research output in the Sultanate of Oman.

• Increase research output, that is relevant and of important to the Sultanate of Oman.

• Increase the level of awareness about TRC and its various initiative and programs to support research and innovation.
